As I was having the other guitarists sign my guitar at the Jimi Hendrix Tribute at West Fest, I had the opportunity to meet some really interesting and wonderful people.
One guy said he was honored to sign my guitar and then quietly walked away. A few minutes later, he came up and pointed to his signature and said, "I don't know if you're interested on not, but I used to build guitars for the Grateful Dead..." WOW - what a cool guy. And then he introduced me to some other musicians.
Another musician - Craig Easley is a great guitarist in the mold of Jimi - and after signing my guitar presented me with one of his CD's.
Bob was from northern California - across the bridge. He had a sweet Martin travel guitar and was a great guy to talk with. Cathy and he really hit it off while I was running around getting signatures. He had two grown kids and had just recently gotten back into guitar... sounded familiar.
And then there was Groovy Judy.... She has her own website groovyjudy.com and is a local artist who plays like she is Jimi Hendrix's sister. Another guy was filming a documentary and interviewed me about the signatures on my guitar, and another was dressed like a cross between Jimi Hendrix and Elvis Presley. What a sight.
One guy had a guitar that was signed by Steven Stills and several other famous musicians - he signed mine... I did not sign his :) another gentleman was a teacher of California's only middle school rock band and he was there with his students.
Everyone I met was kind, friendly and simply treated you like a fellow musician. I think we were all in awe of the event. It was a once in a lifetime thing and now I can proudly say that I was part of the opening act of the 40th Anniversary Celebration of Woodstock.
